24th Annual Resourceful Women's Awards

The 24th Annual Resourceful Women’s Awards will be held at Franklin Plaza in Troy on Wednesday, September 25th at 5:30PM. Purchase tickets here.

The Resourceful Women’s Awards were established in 2000 to honor women whose community and professional pursuits advance the empowerment of women, a core element of our mission to eliminate racism, empower women and promote peace, justice, freedom, and dignity for all.

We will be honoring the 2024 Resourceful Woman of the Year, Dr. Denise Fernandez-Pallozzi. Dr. Fernandez-Pallozzi is the Interim Vice President for Workforce Development and Community Education at Hudson Valley Community College. Prior to joining HVCC, Fernandez-Pallozzi held leadership roles in K-12 and higher education throughout the Capital Region. She was the executive director of the Capital District Educational Opportunity Center. She worked as director for career and technical education for Questar III BOCES; assistant director for curriculum and instruction for Capital Region BOCES; and as coordinator for adult/continuing education, business/workforce development for Washington-Saratoga-Warren-Hamilton-Essex BOCES. Dr. Denise also served as president and CEO of Furlocity, Inc. in Schenectady. Her background includes several years of teaching and leadership positions on both high school and college levels throughout New York, California, and Florida. Fernandez-Pallozzi is on the board of directors for the Northeast Construction Trades Workforce Coalition and the Capital Region Workforce Development Board.

Please unite with us in supporting Dr. Fernandez-Pallozzi and YWCA-GCR through sponsorship or as an honorary committee member. Our 2024 Resourceful Women’s Awards fundraising goal is $75,000. All proceeds help to sustain, enhance, and expand the unique services and programs YWCA-GCR provides. YWCA-GCR is one of the area’s largest providers of supportive housing to both single women and women with children who would otherwise be homeless or living in substandard housing. In addition to our economic empowerment, homelessness prevention, food security services and supportive programs, every day, YWCA- GCR houses 104 women and over 50 children.

Please consider becoming a corporate or community sponsor and/or joining the honorary committee for our 24th anniversary of this empowering event. Your support will change lives and we appreciate you!

Bodily Autonomy and Racial Justice: A Public Philosophy Conversation

YWCA of the Greater Capital Region is proud to be hosting this free community engagement event featuring members of the Siena College Philosophy Department .

Questions that mat be discussed include the following:

  • What rights should we have over our own bodies, and how are these rights currently being threatened?

  • Should there be any limits on the range of choices or control we have regarding our own bodies?

  • Does a right to bodily autonomy also mean a right to reproductive choice and freedom?

  • How does the struggle for bodily autonomy affect people of different races, gender identities, and body types?

We ask that you please register for this free event.
