The 22nd Annual Resourceful Women’s Awards, presented by Groff NetWorks and with Persimmon Sponsor, Nacy Warner Associates will be held at Franklin Plaza in Troy on Wednesday, October 19th at 6PM. Purchase tickets here.
The Resourceful Women’s Awards were established in 2000 to honor women whose community and professional pursuits advance the empowerment of women, a core element of our mission to eliminate racism, empower women and promote peace, justice, freedom and dignity for all.
We will be honoring the 2022 Resourceful Woman of the Year, Dr. Angela Ledford, Professor of Political Theory at the College of St. Rose and Professor-in-Residence at the New York State Assembly. Dr. Ledford received her Ph.D. in Political Science from the University of South Carolina and specializes in contemporary political theory (particularly racial capitalism, gender theory, and transnational social movements and collective violence). She teaches courses primarily in democratic theory, feminist theory, modern political thought, and race and mass incarceration. Dr. Ledford has published articles on topics such as the movement to relocate the Confederate flag in South Carolina and the relationship between political representation and social class. Her first book, Group Representation, Feminist Theory, and the Promise of Justice, was published in 2012 and makes the case for alternative electoral arrangements to increase the representation of women and minorities in America. A long-time activist, Dr. Ledford works on behalf of prison abolition, racial and reproductive justice, and ending capitalism.
Please unite with us in supporting Dr. Ledford and YWCA-GCR through sponsorship or as an honorary committee member. Our 2022 Resourceful Women’s Awards Luncheon fundraising goal is $60,000. All proceeds help to sustain, enhance, and expand the unique services and programs YWCA-GCR provides. YWCA-GCR is one of the area’s largest providers of supportive housing to both single women and women with children who would otherwise be homeless or living in substandard housing. In addition to our economic empowerment, homelessness prevention, food security services and supportive programs, every day, YWCA- GCR houses 104 women and over 50 children.
Please consider becoming a corporate or community sponsor and/or join the honorary committee for our 22nd anniversary of this empowering event. Your support will change lives and we appreciate you!
