YWCA HOUSING

Grandhall

YWCA of the Greater Capital Region, Inc. has been providing safe, affordable and supportive housing to single women since 1883. Today, YWCA-GCR is the area’s largest provider of supportive housing for homeless single women and homeless women with children. To find out more about our housing programs or to schedule an intake, please contact us at (518) 274-7100 or info@ywca-gcr.org.

Single Room Occupancy (SRO) Residence

YWCA-GCR provides 76 single room occupancy (SRO) units to a diverse group of homeless single women. YWCA-GCR remains one of the safest and most affordable places for women and families in the Greater Capital Region. Room rental includes heat and hot water and a bed, dresser, sink and closet space. SRO Housing is community living and provides a shared lounge area complete with cable TV, kitchen, bathrooms and laundry room. Residents have access to all of the services and programs provided by YWCA-GCR, as well as case management provided by our Housing Coordinators.

Women in Transition (WIT)

The Women in Transition Program (WIT), provides 14 units of transitional housing for homeless single women and women with children, 9 of which are designed to accommodate families. Residents of the WIT Program may stay for up to one year and are required to set goals, complete household chores, attend weekly mandatory WIT meetings and be engaged with at least two community service providers. Women are also required to sign in every night and have to adhere to set curfew. The Director of Transitional Housing and Family Services and the WIT Advocate are available to assist and advocate for WIT residents while providing case management and case coordination. All WIT residents receive 360° of Support—a range of services customized to meet each woman’s individual needs. The ultimate goal is for each woman to successfully transition into permanent housing and maintain housing, becoming self-sufficient.

Family Apartments

The Family Apartment Program provides 4 one-bedroom on-site apartments which provide easy access to all of the programs and services provided by YWCA-GCR but yet affords independence.  Residents in this program work with a case manager in order to be able to maintain housing stability and become self-sufficient. The women receive 360° of Support—a range of services customized to meet each woman’s individual needs. Women must be homeless with children and have a disability in order to meet the criteria for this program.

Apartment Program

The Apartment Program provides 10 families in scattered site apartments in the community with a rental subsidy as well as case management, support and advocacy. Participants of this program have access to all of the programs and services of YWCA-GCR and work closely with their case manager to maintain housing stability and become self-sufficient. The women receive 360° of Support—a range of services customized to meet each woman’s individual needs. Women must be homeless with children and have a disability in order to meet the criteria for this program. If a family structure involves a two-parent household, men are welcome as long as the woman is the head of household and their combined income meets the income eligibility criteria.

YWCA-GCR residents as well as members of the community are welcome to join us each week for a free nutrition cooked meal. Meals are prepared by a variety of volunteers including but not limited to YWCA-GCR staff, residents, community members and students. Residents are encouraged to participate in preparation of the meals and will be assisted by staff in menu planning, shopping and time management. We serve an average of 75 people per week. The YWCA-GCR also partners with community organizations to set up booths at weekly Community Meal to advertise, promote and engage guests in services.
